Still relatively undeveloped, Negril, at the western-most point of Jamaica, is one of the highlights of any trip to the island. An extended Negril Villa Vacation is like stepping back from the modern world, though you can still enjoy luxury service and ammenities. Dramatic, exotic, and preciously beautiful, Negril is a vacation paradise on par with the best anywhere in the world. Even today, the laid-back lifestyle, and the kind people who greet guests make it a favorite among even the most travel weary.
A new highway from Montego Bay and some improvements in infrastructure have brought more tourists to the area in recent years. But the "Seven Mile Beach" is still famous the world over for its incredible space and beauty. Visitors from all over the world, arrive, stay, and never want to leave. Many never see anything else of Negril but this wonderful stretch of white sand forever meeting the sea.
Historically, the Negril area has been the haunt of free-spirits,and that legacy is evident in the many nude beaches along this stretch of coast. With striking aquamarine water alive with coral reefs and their many inhabitants, plus a proliferation of plant and animal life on land, Negril is as natural as Jamaica gets. The Royal Palm Reserve is an enormous natural recreation area for humans, birds and lots of other forms of wildlife. Guided tours are available, and many specialize in presenting the vast array of plant, animal, and insect species that are exclusive to the reserve.
Nearby the Rhodes Hall Plantation offers historical tours as well as unforgettable horseback rides into the coconut and banana groves, and these can continue into the surrounding hills or down to the wetlands where crocodiles lurk. At 500 acres, it's one of the largest plantations open to the public anywhere in Jamaica.
Off the coast, Miskito Cove is a rare island delight, designed exclusively by and for the yachting crowd who drop anchor here. Plenty of food is ready for boaters or for those who arrive by land and beyond the cove. The striking Dolphin Head Mountains reach for the sky, and some of the most charming and private places on the island can be found nearby. Hard to miss, the Negril Lighthouse still offers one of the most prominent landmarks on the western tip of the island, and guides ships just as it has since 1895.
Many newer Negril restaurants offer world class European dishes and many Jamaican favorites. One can dine along the beaches or on cliffside terraces and experience some of the Caribbean's most spectacular sunsets. Vacationers of every stripe consider Negril one of Jamaica's most exotic and desirable locations, and with a full seven miles of glorious beach there is something for everyone. Shopping is somewhat more limited than in more metropolitan areas, but visitors here welcome the relief. Of course, we can have your groceries - or professionally cooked meals - delivered to you.
